  • Don Slaunwhite, DVM, BSc

    Dr. Slaunwhite graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1992 after receiving his Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1988. He is proud to live in the same community where he practices. He and his wife have three active boys. He is on the local Jr. High advisory council, and is a strong supporter of minor sports in the area. He has coached hockey, baseball and soccer in the local area. For relaxation he can be found floating on the Atlantic either off of Shediac or PEI with his family. His veterinary interests include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.
  • Nadine Comeau, DVM, BSc

    Dr. Nadine Comeau is a 2007 graduate from the Atlantic Veterinary College, and has been part of the team at Companion Animal Hospital since August 2008.  Prior to attending veterinary school, she completed a Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie University.  Nadine is originally from Cow Bay and currently lives in Dartmouth with her husband and their two boys. They have three cats, Tinkerbell, Sly and Wayne and dog Beau.  In her free time Nadine loves spending time outdoors, reading, and playing the piano. Now much of her free time will be taken up by her handsome boys .  She has a special interest in feline and canine medicine.
  • Becky Brewster, DVM, BSc

    Dr. Becky Brewster graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2016, joining the Companion Animal Hospital shortly thereafter. Before graduating the DVM program, she completed a Bachelor of Science, with a Major in Animal Science and Minor in Genetics and Molecular Biology, from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. She has previous experience working as a receptionist/assistant for various veterinary clinics in NB and NS. Becky grew up in Miramichi, NB, but now resides in Brookside, NS with her significant other and two fur-babes, Oscar and Heidi. In her free time, Becky enjoys spending time outdoors and with her family, friends, and loved ones in NB and NS              
  • Chelsea Bitar, DVM, BSc

    Dr. Chelsea De Carufel graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2013. Prior to her veterinary studies, she graduated with distinction from Dalhousie University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Biology. Chelsea is originally from Hydrostone area of Halifax and currently resides in Bedford with her fiancé Kyle. They have three cats: Simba the 18 year old tabby, Panda the three-legged Tuxedo cat and Reese's Pieces a retired breeding Exotic ShorthairFor relaxation she enjoys travelling to warm destinations with family and friends. Her veterinary interests include emergency medicine and senior pet care.  
  • Jacquelin Morash, RVT

    Hospital Manager
    Jacquelin was raised in Dartmouth, and currently resides in Porter's Lake with her husband and two sons. Their other family members include their kitties Lily,  Rascal and Vinnie.

    Jacquelin started with our team as a Registered Veterinary Technician before becoming the hospital manager.  She graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1998  and has been working at  Companion Animal Hospital since May 1997. She believes she is fortunate to do something she loves everyday!
  • Ruth Jeffrey, VT

    Veterinary Technician
    Ruth has been at Companion Animal Hospital since it opened its doors in 1996.  Ruth originates from England, but now makes Sackville her home with her two children, four cats, (Astro, Jewell, Nigel and Caramel Joe), rabbit (Cake) and mouse (Lightning).
  • Christina Miller, RVT, BSc

    Registered Veterinary Technician
    Christina joined the Companion Animal Hospital team in 2014. A Montréal, Québec native, she completed her diploma in animal health technology from Vanier College in 2006, followed by a bachelor's of environmental science (majoring in applied zoology) from McGill University in 2012. Long-time veterinary technician and former zoo curator, her greatest interest is reptile and amphibian biology, care and medicine. She is active in educating veterinary technicians as well as pet owners about these often misunderstood animals, teaching in guest lectures at Vanier College, at various conferences, and sometimes through pet care and vet tech magazine articles. Her other professional interests include nutrition (wellness and therapeutic), transfusion medicine, dentistry, and evolutionary biology.
  • Alison Gordon, VT

    Veterinary Technician

    Alison joined our team in December 2014. She graduated from Maritime Business College from the veterinary technician program. She currently resides in Dartmouth with her dog Nora. When she is not at work Alison enjoys anything active and outdoors with her boyfriend Brandon.

    Ashley joined our team in July 2015. She graduated from Oulton college from the veterinary technician program. She currently resides in Porters Lake with her boyfriend Josh and her cat Isabelle. When she is not at work Ashley enjoys camping and four wheeling.

    Registered Veterinary Technician
    Shawn is a recent graduate from Maritime Business College, Veterinary technician program. Before  that Shawn graduated from Acadia University with a BA focused on theater. Growing up Shawn has always lived with a least 2 animals in the house (more if you would like to include his brother). In his free time Shawn enjoys camping, theater and film.

    Veterinary Assistant
    Kelly joined Companion Animal Hospital in the fall of 2010. She graduated from the Maritime Business College Veterinary Assistant program in 2011. She currently resides just outside of Windsor with her Australian Shepherd (Lincoln), American Staffordshire Terrier (Ray), and cats Annie, Frank, Fran, Beautiful and Caroline. When not working Kelly enjoys an active lifestyle playing soccer, camping and spending time with family and friends.
  • Holly Stubbert, VA

    Veterinary Assistant
    Holly joined Companion Animal Hospital in October of 2012 as a part time receptionist. She graduated from the Eastern College Veterinary Assistant program in the fall of 2011. In her spare time she enjoys being with friends and family. She currently lives in Dartmouth with her boyfriend Nick and their black lab Reggie.
  • Randy Caldwell, VA

    Veterinary Assistant
    Randy graduated from the Center of Health Studies and joined Companion Animal Hospital as a vet assistant in July 2013.  In his free time, he enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking and video games, while also volunteering with the Maritime Reptile Zoo. Randy also spends much of his time taking care of his animals which include two cats, eight geckos, two snakes and three chinchillas.
  • Amberlee Boutillier

    Amber is one of our full time Receptionists. Before coming to work at the Companion Animal Hospital she attended the Maritime Business College in the Veterinary Assistant course, and a Tourism and Hospitality course at the NSCC. She has been with us since November 2005. When not behind the desk she can be found  at home in Porters lake with her dog Pixel (a jack russel terrier), cat Gemma and beautiful new baby girl Gwenyth Quinn.

    Olivia joined our team in August 2006 and is one of our full time receptionists.  When not at work, she can be found at her home in the valley with her husband Jason and their 2 cats, Mittens and Ava and their miniature pinschers Daisy and Duke.
  • Johnica Vacon

    Johnica joined the hospital in 2009.  She works as a Full time receptionist and always has a big smile for anyone who walks through the door. She Graduated from Saint Mary's University in 2013. She enjoys playing soccer, fishing and doing anything outside with her other half Kyle. Johnica and Kyle have a beautiful baby girl, Adalynn, and 3 cats, Pawly, Nala and Ralph that keep them busy. 
  • Mary MacFarlane

    Mary joined us in November 2005. Her love and compassion for animals is what brought her to work with us at Companion Animal Hospital. Her background includes working in child welfare and in real estate and development. Mary nursed an American Mallard duck with a broken wing in a spare office and watched him fly away in fine shape after a few nips to her fingers! She considers it an honour and a privilege to be associated with this clinic
  • Alison Nickel


    Alison first took a receptionist job at her local veterinary clinic in Montreal in 1994. Twenty-three years later, she is still working in a veterinary clinic and has had dogs, cats, a rabbit, a chinchilla, rats, guinea pigs, a degu, hedgehogs, a parrot, budgies, a ball python, a tortoise, a bearded dragon, a gecko, frogs, salamanders, mudskippers, and hermit crabs in her house at one time or another. She is also (and most importantly) the mother of two amazing kids.

  • Casey Petrie, VA


    Casey has joined Companion Animal Hospital in the spring of 2016. She graduated from the Veterinary Assistant program at Maritime Business College. Casey’s main interest in the Veterinary field includes Neurology and Cardiology. Her dream is to go further with her career in the future. When she’s not working, she likes to sing and make music on her spare time. She also likes to spend time with her ‘furmily’, her human family, and her boyfriend Aaron.
